The Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument is in southern New Mexico near Las Cruces. The mountains are a steep, jagged range with rocky spires that rise majestically from the Chihuahuan Desert floor to over 9000 feet. Rocky peaks, narrow canyons, and open woodlands are home to many bird species, mountain lions, mule deer, and rattlesnakes.
