Great Basin is a landscape of glacier-carved peaks, alpine lakes, ancient bristlecone pines, varied forests, and limestone caverns. One of the least visited national parks, it was created by congress in 1986. The bristlecone pines, some 3000 years old, thrive only at elevations of 9,500 to 11,000 feet.
