Acadia National Park is located on Mount Desert Island, a mountainous granite ridge on the coast of Maine. Sculpted by glaciers 20,000 years ago it is studded with lakes and features 1,530 foot Cadillac Mountain. The summit of this mountain is the first place that dawn light touches the United States at sunrise. A portion of the park is on the mainland on the Schoodic Peninsula providing views of Mount Desert Island.
