The White Mountains of New Hampshire provide some of the most spectacular scenery in the eastern U.S., especially in the Fall when the mountains and valleys are blazing with color. Mount Washington at 6288 feet is the tallest peak east of the Mississippi river. Its summit can be reached by a nerve-racking 8 mile drive for breathtaking views. The 23 mile long Kancamagus Scenic Byway is one of the best Fall color drives in the U.S. Several notches, which are U-shaped valleys carved by glaciers allow access to these beautiful mountains.
